Study a Master of Teaching

Thinking about a career change into teaching? 

º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓÆµ's Master of Teaching is a postgraduate degree designed for people who want to turn their existing bachelor’s degree into a career in either primary or secondary education. You’ll build the knowledge and practical skills to guide early development, encourage curiosity, create positive learning experiences that can shape a child’s future and graduate ready to give children the best possible start in life.

You’ll gain the confidence, skills and experience to:

  • Bring your existing knowledge into an engaging, modern teaching environment. 
  • You’ll build the knowledge and practical skills to guide early development, encourage curiosity and create positive learning experiences that can shape a child’s future.

Flexible study options: Learn on campus or in a blended format, with school-based placements across ACT schools starting from your first semester.

Teach sooner with a PTT: Eligible students can apply for a Permit to Teach after their first year, allowing them to start teaching while completing their final year.*

Built on real classroom experience: With strong partnerships across ACT and NSW, you’ll gain practical skills, mentorship and industry connections that help you graduate classroom-ready.

Course details

The course units you'll study are designed to help you grow into a confident and capable teacher and will vary depending on whether you choose the Primary or Secondary pathway. Across the course, you'll explore key areas such as curriculum and assessment, inclusive education, classroom management, student development and Indigenous teaching and learning.

Master of Primary Teaching

You'll gain the skills to teach across the Australian Curriculum, from literacy and numeracy to science, the arts, health and humanities. This broad and practical degree prepares you to support young learners across a wide range of subjects.

Master of Secondary Teaching

With Secondary Teaching, you'll focus more deeply on your chosen discipline or teaching areas along with units in digital technologies, student wellbeing and assessment. You'll graduate ready to support older students with confidence, care and strong subject knowledge.


º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓÆµ offers a supportive and personalised admissions experience. We're here to guide you through the process and help you find the teaching pathway that’s right for you. Entrants to graduate entry programs must have a discipline-specific bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification relevant to the Australian Curriculum or other recognised areas of schooling provision. For domestic students, the fees for the Master of Teaching are based on a standard full-time load of 24 credit points per year. If you’re offered a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP), you’ll pay a Student Contribution Amount instead of full tuition fees. You don’t need to apply separately for a CSP as your eligibility will be assessed automatically when you apply for the Master of Teaching. Fees are reviewed annually and may change.

From your first semester, you’ll gain hands-on experience in real classrooms through supervised placements in ACT schools. Across the course, you’ll complete 60 days of placement, allowing you to apply what you’re learning while building confidence and practical skills. 


º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓÆµâ€™s Master of Teaching is fully accredited by the ACT Teacher Quality Institute (TQI), ensuring your qualification is recognised across Australia. You’ll graduate classroom-ready, with the knowledge and experience required to register as a teacher and begin a rewarding career in Primary or Secondary education.

  • Blended: Blend of online and in-person study, with school-based and on-country experiences in the ACT region.

The course is for those who already hold a bachelor’s degree in a field outside of education and want to become qualified teachers. Whether you’re changing careers or pursuing a long-standing interest in teaching, this postgraduate degree provides a clear and supported pathway into Primary or Secondary education.

º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓÆµ offers personalised support throughout your Master of Teaching journey. From admissions guidance to academic support and mentoring through your in-school placements, you’ll be supported by experienced educators who understand the needs of career changers. We work closely with you to ensure you feel confident and connected every step of the way.

A Permit to Teach allows eligible Master of Teaching students to begin working in ACT schools after completing their first year of study. This option means you can earn valuable classroom experience and income while completing your final year. It’s an excellent way to accelerate your career while continuing to build your practical skills in a supported environment.

The Master of Teaching is typically completed in two years of full-time study. If you need more flexibility, part-time study options are also available. The program is structured to help you build knowledge progressively while gaining real classroom experience throughout.
