GenAI and Assessment at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ
The º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ has updated its position on the use of Generative AI (GenAI) in assessment for education and research as per the following principles and categories.
This video explains how º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ’s approach is informed by principles which determine the suitable categories to apply to assessments.
- Assessments across any of the categories above may be designated as secured where there is a high level of assessment security and assurance of student learning.
- The University provides students with free and protected access to Microsoft Copilot and Dall-E. Using this version of Microsoft Copilot ensures your data, personal information, and intellectual property are protected. These GenAI services are accessible when you log in using your º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ username and password at .
- A Learning Validation Conversation (LVC) may be required when the authenticity of a submitted assessment is in doubt and will be used to ascertain if a student has met the learning outcomes linked to a summative assessment. Refer to the Guideline for Learning Validation Conversations for more information.
- The º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ has enabled the Turnitin AI Writing detection tool; the associated AI Writing detection scores and report may lead to an LVC and/or contribute as a piece of evidence in suspected academic misconduct cases. For more information, refer to the Quick Guide to the Turnitin AI Writing Detection Tool for Students or the Quick Guide to the Turnitin Detection Tool for Staff.
- For assessments submitted by research students, the primary supervisor will determine the category which is applied for each assessment(s), and iThenticate will be used as an AI writing detection tool.
- The º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ does not support the banning of the use of GenAI at a Faculty, School/Discipline, or Course level.
